In an interview with Times of India, Dolphin said, “I was born into a Muslim family, but my mother came from a Hindu family, so we celebrated all festivals from an early age (sic).”

She further explains, “My mother always taught me that the significance of Makar Sankranti goes beyond its mythological aspects. It symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and hope over despair. It is a celebration of renewal, gratitude, and the joys of life. I have very fond memories of Makar Sankranti (sic).”

She continues, “From sharing traditional sweets like sesame, coconut, and jaggery to flying kites and enjoying fun moments together, it was a time of joy. We would gather to celebrate and have a good time (sic).”

Dolphin also shares, “I got married into a Brahmin family, although I am now divorced. But even then, I celebrated this festival with my in-laws. We would worship the Sun God on this day. Even today, my ex-husband brings sweets, kites, and gifts to celebrate with my daughter, Kamakshi (sic).”
