Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday expelled her nephew Akash Anand from the party, a day after she removed the latter from all party positions in a major reshuffle.

Citing Anand’s response to BSP’s showcause notice as “selfish and arrogant”, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said that his reply made it clear that he was under the influence of his father-in-law and Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Siddharth, who has already been expelled from the party on charges of factionalism.

“He (Akash Anand) should have repented for this and shown his maturity. But on the contrary, the lengthy response given by Shri Akash is not a sign of his remorse and political maturity, but is mostly selfish, arrogant and non-missionary under the influence of his father-in-law, whom I have been advising all such people in the party to avoid and also punishing them,” Mayawati said in a series of posts on X.

“In the interest of the movement of Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and following the tradition of the discipline of Kanshiram ji, Akash Anand and his father-in-law, are expelled from the party”, she added.

On Sunday, the BSP supremo appointed Akash’s father, party general secretary Anand Kumar, and Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Gautam as the new national coordinators.

On Sunday, she said that Anand’s political career had been affected by his father-in-law, as he may still be exerting influence on him through his daughter, Pragya, Akash Anand’s wife.

This is the second time Akash Anand has been relieved of his responsibilities. The first occurred in May of last year during the Lok Sabha elections, but he was reinstated in both roles by Mayawati in July.

Who Will Be Mayawati’s Successor?

Regarding her political successor, a long-standing point of contention among party leaders, Mayawati reaffirmed that there would be no successor while she is alive. The party and the movement are supreme and relations like brother, sister and their children come later, she added.

Anand served the responsibilities of being Mayawati’s political successor and the BSP’s national coordinator.
