WhatsApp is part of Meta’s entourage of platforms, which includes Facebook, Instagram and the newcomer, Threads.

However, WhatsApp is designed solely for communication – and many users are now left in the dark.

Issue reports for the US alone had surpassed 29,000.

Approximately 55 percent said they were having issues sending messages, 42 percent were experiencing problems with the app, and three percent said the website was not working.

However, the UK side of DownDetector shows more than 160,000 issue reports.

Of these reports, 63 percent said they are having issues sending could not receive messages.

WhatsApp’s Twitter page did not mention the massive outage on its Twitter page.

WhatsApp has an estimated monthly active user base of 2.7 billion people, but it is not clear how many have been impacted by the outage.
