With the 2024 Formula 1 season officially wrapping up in December, the entire grid came together during the annual drivers’ dinner. The meal is held every year to commemorate the campaign’s end ahead of the final race scheduled at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The dinner was organised by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton. The cheque, however, was picked up by the Brit’s former teammate Valtteri Bottas.
The Aston Martin duo of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll were among the key entities who missed the dinner. Haas driver Kevin Magnussen was also absent from the frame that was later shared by Formula 1’s official account on X. “The annual drivers dinner!” the post read.
Lewis Hamilton later shared the photograph on his official Instagram account and wrote, “After another long season battling one another, always good to come together. Thank you all for coming, really grateful for the time.” The British legend also poked fun at Lando Norris on his Instagram story. The McLaren driver made funny faces during the session which led to multiple takes for the photograph. “Lando ‘multiple takes’ Norris,” Hamilton wrote in his story.
Alpine driver Esteban Ocon thanked Lewis Hamilton for organising the annual dinner. “That was a fun night cheers for organising Lewis Hamilton always great to get all together, bunch of legends all around,” he wrote. Whereas, Ocon’s teammate Pierre Gasly thanked Valtteri Bottas for getting the cheque this time. “2024 crew, et voilaaa!! Rivals on track, but good mates off track, been another fun one this year!!” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Lando Norris took the opportunity to share a cryptic message on his Instagram profile about the recent spat between George Russell and Max Verstappen. He confirmed on his Instagram that Verstappen and Russell were kept ‘as far away from each other as possible’ during the traditional dinner in Abu Dhabi. “2024 dinner! and yes, the two you’re thinking about were sat as far away from each other as possible,” he wrote.
Max Verstappen and George Russell got involved in heated quarrel following the Qatar Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver blamed Russell for his penalty while also calling him a double-faced personality in an interview. The Mercedes driver recently responded to the criticism. “For a world champion to be coming out saying he’s going to go out of his way to crash into someone and put them on their effing head, that is not the sort of role models we should be,” he said as per multiple outlets.
The final Grand Prix of the 2024 season will begin on Sunday, December 8 in Abu Dhabi.
