De Bruyne has started the new season in devastating form, topping the Premier League assists table after seven games, netting six assists, double the amount of second-placed Roberto Firmino.

The 31-year-old edged deeper into top-flights record books by matching Gerrard’s number of assists, but surprisingly in 287 games fewer with the Liverpool legend needing 504 games to reach the figure.

Teammate and opening goalscorer, Grealish revealed he has been nagging De Bruyne about not assisting for enough goals prior to their trip to Molineux.

Speaking to BT Sport at full-time, the Englishman said: ‘I’m always having a laugh with Kev, saying to him about assisting me.

I said, ‘Come on, you’re meant to be the best assister in the world!’ Luckily he came up to me today and said, ‘There we go’.’

Man City’s midfield maestro may have carved out a sensational career playing in England but is still someway behind top assists record-holder Ryan Giggs’ who set up 162 goals during his time at Manchester United.

The other top spots are occupied by Ex-England and Man United captain Wayne Rooney (103 assists), Everton boss Frank Lampard (102) and Arsenal hero Dennis Bergkamp (94).

De Bruyne could surpass Begkamp when City welcome cross-city rivals Man United to the Etihad on October 2 as Erik ten Hag’s side look to take another top six scalp early into the new season.
