Jon Rahm has lifted the lid on his foot infection ahead of this week’s US Open, with the Spaniard suggesting he’s in a race against time to recover by Thursday.
The two-time major winner withdrew midway through the second round of LIV Golf’s latest tournament in Houston on Saturday.
And ahead of this week’s tournament in Pinehurst, he admitted that his current ailment is a ‘concern.’
‘It was supposed to last the whole round, and by my second hole I was in pain already,’ Rahm told reporters of a numbing shot he received, per ESPN.
‘The infection was the worrisome part. The infection is now controlled, but there’s still swelling and there’s still pain.’

Rahm reportedly arrived to his press availability on Tuesday wearing a flip-flop on his left foot, and a toe separator as well.
He said the cut on his foot, which forced him to withdraw just six holes into the second round, is between his pinkie toe and the next toe.
‘Could I have dragged myself out there and posted some kind of a score? Yeah.’ Rahm said.
‘But it was getting to a point where I wasn’t making the swings I wanted to make, and I could have hurt other parts of my swing just because of the pain. As to right now [playing] this week, I don’t know.’
If Rahm can recover in time, he will be one of 12 LIV players playing at Pinehurst, where he will look to improve upon his performances at major championships this year.
He finished in a mere tie for 45th at The Masters in April and did even worse as the PGA Championship when he didn’t make the cut.
Rahm’s first major championship came at the US Open in 2021.
