John Wick: Chapter 4 was a satisfying end to Keanu Reeves’ action-packed movie franchise. Directed by Chad Stahelski, the film had a rather tragic finale. Now, the director has opened up about drawing inspiration from the classic anime Cowboy Bebop for the final scenes.

In a recent interview, Stahelski revealed that the climatic duel was inspired by Cowboy Bebop. John Wick: Chapter 4 ends with the titular assassin dying after a duel. His death is a quiet moment that takes place on the stairs of Sacré-Cœur in Paris.

The director said that Cowboy Bebop is his favourite anime. In the anime, the protagonist Spike Spiegel dies on a flight of stairs. He also shared that director and creator Hajime Yatate has had an influence on his filmography.

Cowboy Bebop is a cult favourite anime that follows bounty hunters in space. The series also got a live-action adaptation that was cancelled after one season.

John Wick: Chapter 4 saw Keanu Reeves’ John Wick die. The film will soon get an Ana de Armas-led spin-off titled Ballerina. It will be released in June 2024.
