Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, is Karan Johar’s much anticipated return to directing. Karan went live on Instagram to answer some questions from fans after the movie’s trailer was released.
When asked if Shah Rukh Khan will make a surprise appearance in the movie like he did in his previous movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Karan took a moment to think before responding that SRK is not in the movie.
“No, he is not (in the film) but his love and blessings are always with me. He is family to me and he was the first person to put out the first unit of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” he said.
Yet, according to Karan, the movie features three unexpected cameos. Ananya Panday has already been identified by fans in the clip. When asked if Karan will appear in the movie, the director laughed and responded,”Fortunately, for all of you, I am not in the film. My success as an actor has been pretty much zero.”
The inspiration for Rocky and Rani’s personas came from real-life people, according to Karan.”Rocky is definitely inspired by somebody who I can’t reveal right now. Rani is like many people I have met. In fact, a member of the media that I knew very well and dressed a lot like the way Rani does,” he said.
The trailer gave us a glimpse into the polar opposite lifestyles of Rocky Randhawa and Rani Chatterjee. While Rani hails from a Bengali family where knowledge and intelligence are highly respected, Rocky is a Punjabi boy from an affluent Punjabi family. And they start dating, but they quickly learn that their families don’t get along. Afterwards, in an effort to impress them, Rocky and Rani choose to “switch” and live with different families.
In addition to Ranveer and Alia, the movie also has Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, and Dharmendra in the key roles.
