On Sunday morning at 10:30 am ET, Richard Branson is taking off to space on a Virgin Galactic rocket, the VSS Unity, which will be carried by the plane VMS Eve (named after Branson’s mother). This flight is the first time Virgin Galactic takes a full complement of people into space: two pilots, Branson, and three other Virgin Galactic employees who will be testing different aspects of the experience. Forbes is live at Spaceport America watching the flight. Stay tuned for more updates.
A scene from the Spaceport as the launch preparation gets underway
The launch of the Unity 22 was originally slated for 9am ET. It’s been delayed due to some overnight weather but things look good for a 10:30am launch. The event itself takes place at Spaceport America, which is near Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. There’s a central stage where the events and presentations will be made, but right now it’s pretty empty as the preparations for launch are happening.
