Just in time for the Met Gala which is dedicated to iconic fashion designer Karl Largerfeld, The Karl Lagerfeld Macau Hotel opens its doors this Summer.
The stunning five-star hotel was designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld as part of The Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, and will open in June 2023. With over-the-top interiors and large scale installations, it is the only hotel in the world that was completely designed by the famed designer.
The Karl Lagerfeld Macau is the latest addition to SJM Resorts S.A.’s destinations. The new hotel offers up 271 rooms, the Mesa Restaurant, by celebrity chef José Avillez, a castle worthy Book Lounge complete with 4,000 hand-selected books and a large spa that includes an indoor and outdoor swimming pool.
The hotel concept was a reimagining of modern Chinoiserie mixed with traditional craftsmanship, using bold colors and patterns. The rooms and suites utilize classic Chinese design as well as modern Western looks. The headboards were inspired from Chinese coins representing good fortune.
Lagerfeld brought in Dutch artist Marcel Wanders as well as French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel for luxury furnishings. Sculptures were created by Dutch artist Marcel Wanders and French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, and they also added Terzani chandeliers.
Owned by SJM Resorts, The Karl Lagerfeld Macau is the latest addition to the hospitality group’s hotels which owns and operates the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort, the Grand Lisboa hotel and casino, as well as other casinos located in Macau.
Before his death in 2019, the designer worked in close partnership with SJM on the project for several years, making this one a very personal creation to continue his legacy.
If Macau is not part of your travel plans, check out KARL LAGERFELD VILLAS, the brand’s first ever luxury residential project that just broke ground in Marbella, Spain. The five stunning villas named Lucky 7, Icon, St. Germain, Ramatuelle and Runway all honor Karl Lagerfeld’s passion for architecture and interior design.
Each individual villa will feature a private swimming pool and garden, spa, screening room and spacious bedrooms, and are designed to have a minimal impact on the environment, with solar panels, rainwater recovery tanks and automation systems to control energy consumption.
