Indian short film Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know bagged a major win at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Helmed by FTII student Chidananda S Naik, the film won the La Cinef Award for Best Short.
Based on a popular Kannada folklore, the short film tells the story of an elderly lady stealing a rooster after which the sun does not rise. The 16-minute short film chronicles the chaos that follows in the village.
While the film won the first prize, another win in the Best Short category went to Bunnyhood, an Indian film directed by Mansi Maheshwari. The animated film revolves around an innocent boy’s last-minute trip to the hospital.

Cannes’ La Cinef showcased 18 student films chosen from 2263 entries from all over the globe.
