Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has starred in numerous box-office hits since the start of his career. Nevertheless, for the last few years, Akshay Kumar’s movies haven’t had the same impact. A film that was produced on a massive budget in 2022 was unable to break even at the box office. The actor wept when the period drama turned out to be a disaster at the box office.

This 2022 Bollywood movie was produced on an enormous budget. It failed to make even its production costs back, let alone gross revenue at the box office. A similar incident occurred with this year’s ‘Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan.’ Despite spending a staggering Rs 350 crore on production, this film was a box office flop from the moment it opened. Forget about making money, the action drama was unable to even recoup its expenses.

A high-profile film produced in 2022 opened to a disastrous reception at the box office. When the movie tanked, the hero was crushed. His eyes began to brim with tears. That film is none other than – Samrat Prithviraj. The film marked Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar’s Bollywood debut. The movie also starred Sakshi Tanwar, Ashutosh Rana, Manoj Joshi, Sonu Sood, Manav Vij, and Sanjay Dutt. The film was produced by Yash Raj Films.

Not only did filmmakers hold high expectations for Samrat Prithviraj, but Akshay Kumar did too. The superstar had high hopes that the movie would change his luck, but it disappointed everyone with its box office receipts. The budget for the period drama was Rs 300 crore, according to a report in Box Office India. The movie barely brought in Rs 81 crores (gross) in India, while it earned a total of Rs 90 crore (gross) worldwide.

Samrat Prithviraj’s director Chandraprakash Dwivedi spoke about the film’s failure to perform at the box office. During an interview on Mukesh Khanna’s YouTube channel, Akshay Kumar took a lot of flak for it. The age gap between him and Manushi Chhillar also infuriated many.
