If Congress wants to adopt Cancel Culture, it should start with Mahatma Gandhi

Saurabh Dwivedi apology: Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels believed that if a lie is repeated a thousand times it eventually becomes the truth. But the great Indian civilization has been the living example, which negates this sinister philosophy. There are umpteenth examples where lies, falsehoods and canards have died its own torturous death by tying itself in countless knots.

The same seems to have happened with the cabal crying intolerance at the top of their voice. Their own desperate and intolerant measures have exposed their lies about ‘tolerance’ towards dissenters, critics and championing the cause of free speech and expression.

Congress’ supporters harasses dissenters to apologise for speaking their mind

After 2014, India saw a sudden spike in liberal and secular outcry. The intolerance debate was raked to corner the Modi government. It claimed that the Modi government is fascist. It suppresses dissent and launches verbal abuses, trolling or name calling and even carries out physical attacks on its critics.

Well, it seems that the same players have got spooked by individuals who had preferred to speak their mind and deviated a little from leftist lies and narratives.

The recent trolling of few individuals on social media platforms highlights the tolerant credentials of these parties and their ecosystem. Evidently, Congress supporters and sympathisers led a relentless trolling campaign against Lallantop journalist Saurabh Dwivedi and You Tuber Shubham Gaur.

The supporters of the grand old party gleefully accepted that they are harassing these individuals for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. They claimed that they will do the same against anyone peddling false propaganda against their leader.

They started digging old tweets of these individuals and harassing Saurabh Dwivedi and Shubham in order to extract an apology for speaking their mind and criticising Rahul Gandhi.

Earlier, on 14th of October, YouTuber Shubham Gaur had shared a reel from his Instagram account. It showcased an edited video clip of his podcast show. In the reel he had mocked Rahul Gandhi and made unparliamentary remarks against him. After facing relentless trolling he was forced to issue a public apology.

In sycophancy of the party, some supporters openly called out others to indulge in trolling and harassing journalists which speaks volume about Congress’ tolerance towards dissenters and critics. They forgot to understand the basic difference between political indifference and personal attacks and abuses.

After extracting a forced apology from Saurabh Dwivedi and YouTuber Shubham, Congress leaders gloated on Twitter and resorted to bullying to suppress counter viewpoints against Congress’ failing leadership.

Even these apologises didn’t bury the issue then and there. Certain Congress supporters claimed that the apologises were not sincere and resorted to cliche name calling.

Similarly, the party leaders also targeted social media platform Scoop whoop for their earlier content on its leader Rahul Gandhi.

When trolls and party leaders relentlessly attacked the portal, it too apologised for its past content.

Congress’ special bonhomie with Media and Freedom of Speech and Expression

The grand old party Congress relentlessly claims that freedom of press and free speech has taken a sharp hit during the Modi government. It alleges that the Modi government has stifled media and doesn’t give space for dissenting voices. It claims itself to be a champion of free speech.

But it fails to practise what they preach. Right from the times of Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress has a dark history of imposition harsh restrictions on media and making life a living hell for its dissenter. The prominent and recent example of this was the blatant attack and arrest of Republic journalist Arnab Goswami.

It has to be seen that for several years, Congress has been accusing the media for its dismal performance. It alleges that the media is responsible for creating a negative image around Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The Bharat Jodo yatra was Congress’ attempt to jump the intermediary media houses and create a direct connection with the general masses.

But the yatra has been going on for more than a month but it has not yielded the desired result for Congress. Now, it seems that it is again resorting to using scapegoating media and influencers for the failure of its leadership and much hyped Bharat Jodo yatra. The relentless trolling and harassment to extract apologies is Congress’ new tactic to shift the goal post to deviate the responsibility from its capable leader Rahul Gandhi.

Right after independence notable people had criticised Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. So, it will not be a shocker if Congress sycophants start asking apologies for criticising these dynasts of Nehru-Gandhi family.

This abhorrent and insane cancel culture is a result of its desperation to hide the failure of Bharat Jodo Yatra. If the party keeps dragging this “Extract Apology Yatra” and Cancel Culture, it will have to end up cancelling its biggest ideologist Mahatma Gandhi. As it was Gandhi who had argued to disband Congress at all after independence
