Many celebrities in Indian cinema are not giving up on acting even after crossing 60 and 80. There are many celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Bollywood, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan. Male actors are seen in lead roles on the silver screen, but females are not that active till that age. A well-known actress of Indian cinema has shared her reaction on this and told why male actors play important roles on the silver screen for a long time, while females retire.
Renowned cinema actress Meenakshi Seshadri has shared her thoughts on why male actors have to stay in the industry longer than their female counterparts. 61-year-old Meenakshi Seshadri is known for her memorable roles in films like ‘Damini’, ‘Hero’ and ‘Ghaatak’.
Meenakshi was a very expensive actress in the 1980s and 1990s. She romanced the top actors of that era. This includes superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Jackie Shroff, Sunny Deol, Rishi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and Vinod Khanna.
Some of these superstars who romanced Meenakshi are still working in films. However, the charm of Meenakshi and her contemporary actresses is over now. In an interview with ‘Lehran Retro’, Meenakshi Seshadri spoke openly about this. She stressed on why male actors have a longer career in the industry than their female contemporaries? Why are actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Jeetendra active in the industry even in their old age?
In an interview, she said that not having to take care of household chores as well as not having to worry about pregnancy and raising children helps her focus more on work. She told Lehren Retro, ‘There are many reasons why male actors have to stay in the industry for a long time.
The actress says that even with the generation of Dharmendra, Jeetendra and Amitabh Bachchan, they are still in the field. Another reason is that women don’t do household chores while men do. So they can devote themselves completely to their careers. The third reason is that they don’t have to worry about childbirth, pregnancy, or raising children. All this becomes the responsibility of the woman. So, you see, this is why these heroes are still strong.’
Meenakshi Seshadri left the film industry in 1996 to focus on her personal life and settled in the USA. She was one of the most popular actors in the Hindi film industry in the 80s and 90s. She is excited to make a comeback after almost 27 years.
Meenakshi was last seen in the film Do Rahein, which was released in 1997. After Ghatak, she said goodbye to the industry and left the country, and started living abroad. In 1998, she appeared in a cameo role in Swami Vivekananda. She also appeared in a flashback appearance in Ghayal: Once Again, which was released in 2016.
