Andrea Stella has now revealed how Rob Marshall’s addition to the team helped them become championship winners once again.
Formula 1 Constructors’ Champions McLaren have revealed that they were quite impressed by former Red Bull Engineer Rob Marshall. After 17 years with Red Bull, Marshall joined McLaren as the organisation’s technical director in January. His arrival helped the British carmakers put up some stellar performances in the 2024 Formula 1 season. Team McClaren Principal Andrea Stella has now revealed how Marshall’s addition to the team helped them become championship winners once again. “I have to say that, working with him [Rob Marshall], myself, the other technical directors, the entire technical team… if anything, we have been impressed even more than we expected,” he said, as per multiple outlets.
Speaking further, Andrea Stella suggested that Team McLaren was awestruck by Rob Marshall’s experience and knowledge. “Rob came with a wealth of experience, knowledge from a technical point of view, with a reputation from this point of view,” he said. “Because of these qualities, like the knowledge of how you design a car, especially from a car layout point of view,” the McLaren principal added.
Andrea Stella also talked about Rob Marshall’s influence and impact on the upcoming Formula 1 season in 2025. “This is very important for 2025, and this will be very important for 2026 like, I’m sitting next to Rob here, and while I sit next to him, I see him working on the screen,” he added. “I said like, ‘It was a good idea to get Rob, ‘because he’s doing all the work in terms of layout for’ 25, ’26 and we did miss this kind of role at McLaren before,” Stella concluded.
Apart from his professional skillset, Andrea Stella also highlighted Rob Marshall’s wholesome individual qualities. He specified that everyone at McClaren was pleased to share a working environment with the British engineer. “In addition to that, Rob brings fantastic human qualities, a very positive person. Everyone enjoys working with him. He’s full of energy,” Stella said.
The hiring of Rob Marshall in January paved the way for McLaren’s success in 2024. The British carmakers put up some stellar performances this season, winning multiple Grand Prix events. Courtesy of the points collected by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, McLaren secured their first Constructors’ title since 1998 in Abu Dhabi. Marshall’s arrival also coincided with several key hires in the past year which helped them step up to become a championship-winning squad.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were recently confirmed McLaren’s lineup for the upcoming season. The English-Aussie duo will be looking to rack up many more accolades for McLaren in 2025.
