Here’s Where Mike Bloomberg, The Biggest Spender In The 2020 Election, Has Donated This…

Ahead of the 2020 election, Mike Bloomberg spent a record-breaking $1.1 billion of his own money running for president, and another $150 million supporting Democratic candidates and causes. This year, with the 2022 midterms 12 months away, the former New York City mayor has spent about $1.6 million so far, according to Federal Election Commission data.

Where did the money go? About one third of the total, or $563,000, went into Bloomberg’s own super-PAC, Independence USA. In 2020, that super-PAC spent $57 million on radio, television and digital advertising supporting Joe Biden. This year, the super-PAC hasn’t reported any media buys, yet. It has spent about $700,000 through Septembermore than half on “strategy consulting” fees to an LLC that appears to be tied to super-PAC Treasurer Howard Wolfson, who leads the education program at Bloomberg Philanthropies and was Hillary Clinton’s 2008 communications director.

In addition, Bloomberg has given to pro-choice and environmental groups. In April he gave $600,000 to the super-PAC arm of Emily’s List, which supports female candidates who are pro-choice and Democratic. Also in April, he gave $400,000 to the League of Conservation Voters’ super-PAC, making him the group’s biggest individual donor this year, according to FEC data.

In July, he gave $5,800 to House member Lucy McBath (D-Ga.), who worked as the national spokesperson for Bloomberg’s gun control nonprofit, Everytown For Gun Safety, and is running for reelection in 2022.

Bloomberg could spend more in the coming weeks. In 2015, he went on something of a spending spree in the final quarter. And then there’s next year, when it seems all but certain he’ll spend tens of millions, if not more, on the midterms.

A spokesperson for Bloomberg declined to comment on his political spending.
