The eighth day of Navratri which is called Asthami is celebrated nationwide. It’s a huge thing especially in Bengal. The puja pandals are decorated opulently and the food stalls are crowded. However, the celebrations this year are dull because of the pandemic. And understandably so.
The Times of India spoke to actress Riya Sen and asked her how she would be celebrating Durga Asthami this year. The actress said, “This is a bittersweet moment for me, as I will not be able to visit the pandals this year with my mother and sister or indulge in delicious food, colourful clothing and the general sense of merriment that is so characteristic of Pujas in Kolkata. I wanted to be in Kolkata, but I am avoiding it this time as my parents are aging. It might be risky for them. So, I am travelling to Sikkim for a vacation. Also, I am not sure how Pujas will be celebrated in Mumbai either. I will miss the festivities in Kolkata, but will pray that everybody remains safe and maintains the government’s guidelines of social distancing.”
Now that’s asweet wish for everyone and also a wise decision to remain safe.
