Has Manish Sisodia become too big for Kejriwal to shrug off?

A party born out of the anti-corruption movement now seems to have been reduced to a two-person private enterprise. The story of AAP seems to have boiled down to the story of unflinching camaraderie of Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia. That is why, even after being implicated in Liquor scam and continuous foul mouthing, Manish Sisodia is getting an easy pass from the self-anointed jury and crusader against Corruption, Mr. Kejriwal.

Manish Sisodia “snooping” gate

Recently, BJP leaders staged a demonstration near the Delhi Secretariat demanding resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. They alleged that AAP’s Feedback Unit (FBU) conducted “snooping” on politicians, journalists and even businessmen.

Delhi BJP Working President Virendra Sachdeva claimed that this snoopgate will lead to the downfall of the AAP government.

He said, “No one, not even journalists, businessmen, and senior officers were untouched by the Feedback unit. The way the AAP government is functioning, very soon both Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia will be behind the bars”.

Notably, the FBU was established in 2015, soon after Arvind Kejriwal took command of Delhi.

False Equivalences

Since its inception, AAP has been notorious for muddying the water and hypocritically accusing others of corruption without any facts to back it up. But when they are caught neck deep in such controversies and alleged scams, they follow DDLJ (deny, deflect, lie and justify) strategy. They hide behind false iconography, casteist or religious rhetoric. Unsurprisingly, Manish Sisodia took to his official Twitter account to deviate the public from the snooping charge levelled against him.

Replying to the allegations, Sisodia falsely equated himself to PM Narendra Modi.

He wrote, ” If such big people, whose existence depends on getting CBI, ED and Pegasus to conspire against opposition leaders, are afraid of me, it seems like that I’m at the same position as (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi.”

The Delhi Lt Governor, VK Saxena, has sent a recommendation to the President through the Ministry of Home Affairs. The recommendation is for registering a case against Manish Sisodia. This is based on an inquiry by the CBI into the creation and functioning of the FBU. CBI’s preliminary enquiry report claims that the FBU, set up by the Delhi government, was involved in “political intelligence.”

Given the severity of the allegations and Manish Sisodia’s alleged direct involvement in Liquor Scam, the reluctance to remove him suggests that he holds a “significant” significance to the Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Kejriwal.
