Android users just need the Gemini app to use the free voice feature
Google is finally bringing the Gemini Live voice feature to all Android users for free and you don’t need a wake word to activate it.
Gemini Live is now available to all Android users and it is free. Google’s AI model supports the voice feature similar to ChatGPT Voice mode and lets you have a two-way conversation without needing a wake word to activate the AI chatbot every time. Google had reserved the voice feature for the Gemini Advanced subscribers initially but now any Android user with the Gemini app can try it out.
Gemini Live Voice Feature on Android: How To Set Up And Use
– Open the Gemini App on your device.
– Now, look for a new circular waveform icon with a sparkle, located in the bottom right corner of the app and click on it
– Window will appear on the screen with Hold and End buttons.
– To end a conversation, tap on the Notification or just say ‘Stop’.
– Once the conversation ends, the AI feature will generate a textual transcript of your prompts.
The feature also maintains a history of all your conversations, allowing users to review previous interactions or restart conversations as needed. Opening the gate to Gemini Live for free allows Google to increase its reach and gather more inputs on the quality of the conversations the AI chatbot can offer.
We got a chance to use the Gemini Live feature and the overall experience is fluid without needing a wake word which keeps the conversation going. The commands are easily understood, however, the US English version takes time to get used to English in other regions.
Gemini Live supports up to 10 different voices but that will only work if you have paid for Google’s Gemini Advanced plan which costs Rs 1,950 per month and gives you Gemini support in Gmail, Docs and 2TB storage.
