The AI overview is showing random information and you can disable right away
The AI overview summarises results from the internet and presents to the users in a single page of results.
Google recently launched the AI Overview feature. The search giant’s new feature uses its in-house LLM, Gemini AI, which gives a comprehensive summary of the search topics. However, it has been under scrutiny as many users have claimed that the AI feature gives incorrect information.
Even though the AI Overview features are enabled by default, it only comes when Google believes that they can provide more valuable information in their summary than their links. But this feature has failed to provide accurate information, forcing users to cross-check the information. As a result, it becomes necessary to turn off this already-enabled feature on the Google search engine.
Google’s AI Overview feature can be a hindrance for those who prefer to access original content rather than summaries. Even though the feature is enabled by default, Google has found a way to turn off the AI Overview feature. Here’s a step-by-step guide to disabling the AI summary feature on the search engine:
How to Disable Google AI Search Overview
– Open Google Chrome
– Click on the three-dot menus in the top right corner and then select the settings option.
– Users will have to scroll down to the ‘search engine’ settings, which will be available on the panel on the left side.
– Select a search engine and then click on manage search engine and site search.
– Click on the add button.
– In the add search engine box, add the search engine.
– Now, change the URL to {google:baseURL}/search?udm=14&q=%s.
– Once the URL is changed, click on Add.
– Now click on the three-dot menu next to the new search engine you just created and select ‘Make Default’.
– Now the new search engine will appear as the default search engine for the user. Now, when the user searches in the search bar on Google Chrome, it searches using Google’s new Web Search feature instead of AI Overviews.
