Kiwi physiotherapist Cullen, who was an integral part of Hamilton’s crew between 2016 and 2023, returned to assist the seven-time champion in his new endeavour with Ferrari.

British motorsport icon Lewis Hamilton has revealed his joy at being reunited with his ex-trainer Angela Cullen. The Kiwi physiotherapist was recently spotted with the seven-time world champion ahead of the pre-season testing in Bahrain. She has reportedly joined Hamilton again, who is set to embark on his first campaign with the Italian car makers this year.
The British racer was asked about the importance of having familiar faces like Cullen around as he transitions to a new team in 2025.
“It’s always important to have a good foundation of people around you,” Hamilton responded, as per Formula1.com.
Cullen was a familiar face in the paddock for several years in Formula 1. She first partnered with Hamilton back in 2016 and ended up being a part of his team through the successful years with Mercedes. Cullen and Hamilton parted ways in 2023 after a trophy-laden stint. Cullen was born in Devenport in Auckland. She played hockey at an international level for New Zealand till 21 years of age. She worked at the English Institute of Sport in London as a senior physiotherapist before joining Hamilton as his assistant.
Hamilton couldn’t hide his excitement about this reunion. In the same interview, he discussed how he and Cullen had gone through so many emotions together at Mercedes.
“I’ve generally had a very good base for many, many years, so I still have all the team that I had last year, but I’ve brought Ange in on top of that,” he said.
“We have a great relationship, me and Ange; we’ve known each other for a long, long time, we’ve gone through a lot together,” Hamilton added.
Hamilton further claimed that Cullen had taken a two-year break from the sport to be with her family.
“She took a couple of years out and she spent time with her family and discovering the world, and asking her to come and start this new chapter with me and her accepting it was exciting, and we’ve been having a blast – this past month together has been awesome,” he concluded.
It remains to be seen if this rekindled partnership between Hamilton and Cullen can win them some Grand Prix events this year. The 2025 season will begin with the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne on March 16.
