Forbes China Innovation Summit: Chengdu By The Numbers


Chengdu is best known among many travelers globally for its pandas and hotpot cuisine. Yet it’s also a thriving international and domestic commercial hub in southwestern China.  It was the city’s business and technology advantages that led Forbes China, the Chinese edition of Forbes, to team up with the city for the third consecutive year for the  2020 Forbes China Innovation Summit on Oct. 29-30. 

The event attracted 300 guests (see related stories below) to discuss emerging technologies including 5G, autonomous driving and blockchain.   Here’s a quick introduction to Chengdu by the numbers:

–      64: number of universities in Chengdu

–      300,000: college graduates a year

–      City population: 22 million

–      20 foreign consulates

–      6 international cooperation parks – Germany, South Korea, Italy, France, Singapore, Japan

–      5 companies from the city made the 2020 Forbes China “Up and Comers” list of top listed small and medium businesses

–      $240 billion: GDP in 2019

–      55.9 million: passenger throughput at Chengdu Shuangliu international Airport in 2019

–    129: International air transport connections from Shuangliu International Airport
