EXCLUSIVE: Divyenndu: Munna Tripathi’s role had an impact on me

Divyenndu is set to return as Munna Tripathi with a bonus episode of Mirzapur season 3. While the actor has helmed many characters, the one that truly stuck with him is his complex portrayal of Munna Tripathi from Mirzapur. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the gangster’s return to the show, who was presumed dead in the second season of the show. However, the makers have officially announced the return of Munna Bhaiya, with an episode releasing on August 30.

During an exclusive conversation with Filmfare, the actor quipped about playing the character, whom he believes to be a “troubled soul.” While speaking about the character’s complex personality, Divyenndu said, “I was drawn to the character because, as you mentioned, it was one of the most complex I’d ever seen or encountered. It may sound philosophical or spiritual, but there are some characters who truly speak to you. Munna was one of such character.”

The Mirzapur actor noted that the character always felt like a “troubled soul to him.” He delved deeper into the layers of the character and said, “Munna was not enjoying his behaviour or what he was doing, according to my interpretation of the character. I could tell there was a lot of emptiness in his life. Everything he did seemed to be for the sake of appearing to be someone to his father. He wanted to make his dad proud. Hence, the famous dialogue, ‘Papa, proud feel honge aap.'”

The Madgaon Express actor also quipped that playing the character had brought about changes in day-to-day behaviour. “My wife may have mentioned a few instances in which I began to behave in a particular manner in certain situations. She noticed a change in my trigger points. I was getting triggered in a specific way. I always believe that when you stop playing a character, you realise how much it affects you in real life. It works like ear pressure. Munna Tripathi’s role had an impact on me. It was special in some ways, but I don’t think it should be overly romanticised,” he added.
