Everything to know before watching Bridgerton season 3

Dearest gentle readers, Bridgerton is returning with its third season on May 16. This season will revolve around the third Bridgerton sibling, Colin Bridgerton, and Lady Whistledown, a.k.a Penelope Featherington’s love story. While the two had a rocky ending in season 2, season 3 promises an epic love story between them filled with romance, pining, and will-they-won’t-they moments.

While the leads have already revealed that the new season is going to have epic romantic moments, it would be interesting to note whether they follow through the plotlines from the last season that created quite the stir.

Here is a quick rundown of everything you need to remember from Season 2 of Bridgerton before you watch Season 3.

Lead characters: Where do they stand?

We left season two being excited for Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma but the leading pair of this season, Colin and Penelope, had an epic fallout. The story is supposed to pick up from the aftermath of Season 2’s Featherington Ball where Penelope heard Colin telling a group of bachelors that he would never “dream” of courting her. Moreover, Penelope’s friendship with Eloise Bridgerton was in shambles after the latter realized Penelope’s secret identity, a.k.a Lady Whistledown.

Bridgerton Season 3

As for lovebirds Anthony and Kate, the makers have promised to delve into their married life in season 3. However, it would be interesting to know more about the storylines revolving around Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton, who was thriving in his art school last season.

The other characters, including the Featherington sisters Phillipa and Prudence along with their mother Lady Portia Featherington may have important roles this season. According to portraits released by the makers, Prudence Featherington has found her life partner in an obnoxious gentleman, Robert Huxley.

Major plotlines

As mentioned earlier, Penelope and Eloise’s friendship sat in the ruins after the Featherington Ball. Eloise, who was hunting for Lady Whistledown throughout seasons 1 and 2 felt betrayed when she realized that her best friend Penelope was the notorious gossip writer all along.

Season 2 also saw Penelope writing a scathing article about Eloise’s visits with Theo, “unchaperoned, with improper company, political radicals in fact” to safeguard her from being falsely labelled as Lady Whistledown. The pamphlet diverted the Queen’s wrath but it ruined Eloise in front of the society.

Bridgerton Season 3

Colin announced that he would never court Penelope, but he gave her mixed signals throughout season 2 by constantly praising her loyal personality. He also asked her to dance with him at the Featherington Ball and saved her family from being ruined due to the new Lord Featherington’s fake jewels from America. Colin truly turned out to be the “hero” in the last episode of season 2, but his passing comment on never wanting to marry Penelope ruined it for him. It would be interesting to note how he reinstates himself as Penelope’s well-wisher and (hopefully) husband by the end of season 3.

Bridgerton season 3 is scheduled to release on an OTT platform in two parts. Part 1 will release on May 16 while Part 2 is slated to release on June 20.
