The Emmy Awards 2022 was indeed a memorable night. Between the snubs, surprises and glamorous looks, a lot happened. But one moment that has sparked a debate is the stunt Jimmy Kimmel pulled off on stage during Quinta Brunson’s Emmy win.
Quinta Brunson won her first-ever Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary. Will Arnett dragged Jimmy Kimmel’s “dead” body on stage to present the award to Brunson. But to continue the joke, Kimmel decided to remain lying on the stage’s floor while Quinta gave her victory speech.
While Brunson was a sport about it, Kimmel’s stunt left netizens unimpressed. Many accused him of ruining the winning moment and diverting attention to himself.
A Twitter user wrote, “If #QuintaBrunson stepping over #JimmyKimmel who literally laid in her spotlight on the day she won an Emmy isn’t a metaphor for what it means to be a WOC in a white man’s world I don’t know what is.”
Another wrote, “Can’t lie, I’m still annoyed that Jimmy Kimmel’s annoying ass was on the ground trying to take attention away from Quinta Brunson’s historic victory.
After winning, Quinta even said, “Jimmy, I won.” As per reports, she told the press backstage, “The bit didn’t bother me that much.”
