Darren Bent has revealed is is ‘still traumatised’ by a two-hour blast from Roy Keane in which he laid into each Aston Villa player in turn and ranted about Lucozade drinks, massages and yoga.

And striker Bent recalls how Lambert stood aside in the dressing room afterwards and allowed Keane – who was only in the post for five months – to let rip.

‘He was really, really scary. He would just lose it,’ Bent told talkSPORT.

‘And I can understand why, because when you’ve been a top player like Roy Keane was, one of the very best, in his head he can’t understand why us players at Aston Villa made certain mistakes – it just didn’t compute.

‘Like: ‘How can you not pass from there to there? He just can’t see it.

‘I remember this one particular game we played against QPR, we lost down there and he had us in the changing room. Paul Lambert just stepped aside and Roy started talking…

‘And honestly, I promise you, it was a night game and all the lights in the building were off, all the fans who used to wait outside had gone, because we were in there for two hours – he just went off.

‘He was talking about the Lucozade players drink, players getting too many massages, people doing yoga.

‘Ron Vlaar had an injury, I think it was shin splints and Roy was like: ‘How can a player be out for that long with shin splints?’

‘He was going around the room picking faults. No one really wanted to make eye contact with him because the moment that happened he would go for you as well.

‘Everyone just sat there for two hours… I’m still traumatised by what happened that night. Honestly, he was crazy.’

It was reported at the time that Villa’s players held parties when the unpopular former Manchester United captain quit his role in November 2014 to concentrate on the Republic of Ireland.

Keane was once again in the headlines over the weekend after laying into Man United players David de Gea and Harry Maguire after errors in their 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Friday.

Keane said ‘I’d be fighting him at half-time… I would be swinging punches at that guy’ after De Gea allowed Steven Bergwijn’s shot past him.

And on Sunday, Keane wrote in a newspaper column that he feels he was ‘too soft’ and ‘too nice’ on some people during his playing career.
