Chelsea star Kai Havertz self-isolates with his dog after Frank Lampard revealed £71m man’s coronavirus symptoms had ‘escalated’ this week

  • Kai Havertz tested positive for coronavirus on Monday and is in self-isolation
  • The 21-year-old therefore missed Chelsea’s Champions League win this week
  • Frank Lampard said that the German’s symptoms have ‘escalated’ recently
  • But Havertz still felt well enough to post a selfie clutching his dog on Thursday

Kai Havertz posted a cute selfie with his dog on Instagram on Thursday as he continues to self-isolate following his positive Covid-test.

The £71m star, signed from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, tested positive for coronavirus on Monday and has been self-isolating since, missing the Blues’ 3-0 win against Rennes in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Manager Frank Lampard detailed that the rest of the group tested negative again after Havertz, 21, contracted the virus but the Blues boss added that Havertz’s symptoms have ‘escalated’ in the past few days.

‘Kai’s showed up in the Uefa testing on Monday, so we re-tested them yesterday and everyone else is negative in the squad, so that’s a good sign,’ said Lampard.

‘I’ve spoken to Kai a couple of times, he’s very disappointed because he just wants to play.

‘His symptoms escalated slightly today but he’s fine, and just disappointed to be out.

‘It’s just one of those things, but hopefully the isolating will help.’

The German playmaker actually played as recently as last Saturday, in the 3-0 victory against Burnley.

But Havertz now looks set to miss Chelsea’s final game before the international break, against Sheffield United on Saturday, as the Blues look to make it four wins on the spin in all competitions.

The 21-year-old’s involvement for the Germany national team is also in doubt, ahead of games against the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Spain.

Since making the big-money move from the Bundesliga in the summer, Havertz has played 10 times for the Blues, scoring four goals including a hat-trick in the EFL Cup against Barnsley.
