Rishi Sunak‘s team is desperately trying to boost his fast-eroding political stock. But its media strategy is so outdated that the 10 Downinger will probably further dent his support base. Here’s a sample: Sunak and his missus, Akshata Murty, recently gave an interview to Grazia UK on – wait for it – how they share household chores. If that interview wasn’t enough to put you into a coma, it’s also as out of touch as a flip phone in an iPhone world. Rish acts like he’s some sort of domestic superhero, juggling running a country with micromanaging bed-making. Talk about having too much time on his hands with the economy already in recession and Labour waiting in the wings to take over. Not only does he play ‘bed inspector’ but he’s also the self-appointed dishwasher stacker extraordinaire. The hardworking guy has no me-time and ends up watching reruns of Friends before calling it a day on that properly-made bed.
The impact of this interview was worse than Sunak’s handling of NHS: Grazia UK lost a thousand Insta followers, and the videos have been flooded with critical comments from high-profile women. The magazine was left scrambling to tweak the interview. If Sunak’s political career continues its downward spiral, he might find himself with more time to perfect his dish-stacking skills than to juggle the chaos of state affairs.
