Bollywood has lost its appeal among the family audiences

When was the last time you watched a movie with your entire family without getting uncomfortable on account of obscene content and deplorable portrayal of women? Takes a while to remember it, right?  Apparently, with the advent of millennial directors like Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor, Bollywood has lost its appeal among the family audiences. In a mad race to replicate Hollywood and the “western” thought process, they have completely ruined the entertainment industry.

Bollywood’s template for money – Obscenity

Bollywood movies are notorious for distorting what constitutes pleasure. Their obnoxious portrayal of freedom, ‘free choices’, ‘bold content’ and ‘obscenity’ crosses all the red lines. They can simply be categorised as perversion. They have deranged actresses and female characters by objectifying them.

These are evident from needless insertions of Item numbers. For example songs like “beedi jalaile”, “Chikni Chameli”, “Munni Badnam”, and “oo bolega ya oo oo bolega” are examples of needless scenes shown with a lone intention of objectifying women.

Banning the explicit content per se can sometimes limit the flow of movie progression. But even in cases where intimate scenes are an integral part of the script, Bollywood has mostly opted for filthy writing, pathetic and insane sensual panting. In such scenes, foreplay and dialogues in and around intimate scenes are deplorable to say the least.

Worst examples of women objectifications are glaringly visible in each and every reprehensible scene in movies like ‘The Masti Series’, ‘BA Pass’, ‘Lipstick under my Burkha’, ‘Four more shots’ and ‘Gehraiyaan’ among others. Such movies are full of filth in the name of A-rated content. For profiteering they give space to unfiltered content that shows lust in the worst form possible.

Additionally, local streaming platforms have made unfiltered access to the steamiest erotica a way to mint easy money by ruining the young minds.

Emotional Intimacy

Art is not everyone’s cup of tea but it can’t give limitless privileges to artists. For a very long time, Bollywood has been showing vulgarity and obscenity in the name of cinematic liberty and demand of the script. But they always refrained from choosing emotional intimacy and opt for physical intimacy that too in a hilarious as well as despicable manner.

Classic romantic movies like PS: I love you, The Notebook and others have smartly used emotional intimacy to establish the building of romance among the characters and deliver the intended message. It is not that Bollywood has not even one movie to learn from.

The Lunchbox craftily delivers its message of growing romance among the protagonists but has refrained from opting red lines of intimacy. In many movies, Hollywood has shown bare backs, close intimate scenes without impinging obscenity just like Titanic.

Although, the Censor board has issued many guidelines that prohibit everything that verges on the “vulgar”. With Emraan Hashmi’s brand of erotica, Bollywood movies have shamefully pushed the sanitised limits of pleasure and intimacy. The difference between love making and vulgarity is still unknown to many.

The intimacy scenes expresses the form of love and the way one desired to be held and respected unlike in the item numbers where a woman is treated just as a piece of meat with men ogling and using her purely for lust.

Notably, some actresses have reformed in the way as earlier they were only reduced to be a second fiddle to heroes and remain their side-love kick. But now, they are pulling movies alone on their shoulders as sole protagonists. But till the time, the entire industry stands up to realise their duties and responsibilities and clean this mess, the families will keep maintaining two arms distance from objectification of women and deplorable item songs.
