The Maharashtra Assembly has 288 seats and the BJP is contesting 151 of them.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its second list of 22 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra legislative assembly elections. In its first list, the party had announced the names of 99 candidates.
In the second list, the party replaced sitting MLAs of Washim and Gadchiroli while retaining the MLAs of Akot, Nashik Central, Pen, Khadakwasala, Pune Cantonment and Ulhasnagar. The second list also featured two members of the legislative council, Gopichand Padalkar was fielded from Jat and Ramesh Karad from Latur Rural where he would take on Congress’ Dhiraj Deshmukh.
The saffron party, a member of the ruling Mahayuti coalition along with the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and NCP, has declared candidates for 121 constituencies so far. The alliance is yet to finalise seat-sharing details.

The party has so far named 121 candidates for the upcoming polls. In its previous list, BJP named Shrijaya Chavan, daughter of Congress veteran Ashok Chavan (who joined BJP in February) from Bhokar. Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is slated to contest from Nagpur Dakshin and Maharashtra state unit president Chandrashekhar Bawankule was named from Kamthi.
Earlier today, the party had released a list of 40 ‘star campaigners’ for the Maharashtra Assembly election and by-election to Nanded Lok Sabha seat, featuring heavyweights like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, party’s National President JP Nadda, among others.
PM Modi, who is expected to address over 10 rallies between November 7 and 14, tops the list of ‘star campaigners’ which also includes Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The other star campaigners include Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, state in-charge for Assembly elections and Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, co-in-charge and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Maharashtra will vote in a single phase on November 20 and the votes would be counted on November 23.
In 2019, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44, while in 2014, the BJP secured a stronger victory with 122 seats, Shiv Sena 63, and Congress 42.
