A textbook chapter featuring actress Tamannaah Bhatia has prompted a protest from parents of students at Sindhi High School in Hebbal.
There have been complaints from parents of Sindhi High School in Hebbal, Banglore, over a chapter in the textbooks that is based on Tamannaah Bhatia. The parents brought the matter to the notice of the school administration, as reported by Deccan Herald. They were nonetheless compelled to contact the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka due to their ignorance and lack of action.
Reportedly, the school has a chapter on ‘Life after Partition: Migration, Community and Strife in Sindh, 1947 to 1962’ in the class 7th textbook. Thanks to the provision, students can now learn about the linguistic minority.
Why a Chapter on Tamannaah Bhatia Irked Parents?
Actor Ranveer Singh was reportedly one of the successful and well-known Sindhis in the chapter. But apparently, the parents didn’t agree with some of the content that included Tamannaah. According to reports, several parents also accused the administration of threatening to provide their children with transfer credentials if they voiced objections.
“We have no objections on children being introduced to another culture. But our objection is about having a chapter on an actor that is unsuitable for grade 7 students, ” said a parent who filed the complaint. Another parent said, “We have no issues about lessons on veteran actors in the community, but if children were to look up on the internet about this actress, they would get inappropriate content.”
The school authorities were, however, unavailable to comment regarding the same.
