Indian comedian Vir Das made history by becoming the first Indian comedian to win the International Emmy for Comedy at the International Emmy Awards 2023. His comedy special, Vir Das: Landing, received the prestigious award alongside Derry Girls season 3. In celebration of his victory, Vir shared photos of his golden award on his social media account.
Vir Das wrote, “For India. For Indian comedy. Every breath, every word. Thank you to the @iemmys for this incredible honour.” Congratulatory messages are pouring in for him as many celebrities reacted to his post.
Reacting to this, Ayushmann Khurrana took to comments and wrote, “Well deserved (heart emoji).” Hrithik Roshan wrote, “Congrats ! Well deserved.” Taapsee Pannu commented, “So heartening Mr. Das ! Take a bow!” Richa Chadha wrote, “amazing proud moment congratulations Vir.” Meanwhile, Soni Razdan commented, “Omg. This is so well deserved. So so proud. Hugest congratulations.” While Zoya Akhtar dropped a heart emoji.”
In addition to Vir, Shefali Shah and Jim Sarbh were also nominated for the International Emmy Awards this year. However, they did not win the Best Actress and Actor awards respectively. On a positive note, Ektaa Kapoor received recognition at the event and was presented with the International Emmy Directorate Award for her significant contributions to the arts and entertainment industry.
