But the third was a step too far for the young Italian, with Medvedev forcing an error from his rival.

This is an absolute clinic from Medvedev.

He’s toying with Sinner and having only been out on court for around 30 minutes, the Russian is trying to break for the first set here.

I’m so impressed with Medvedev’s composure so far.

Even hen he does make an unforced error, he completely forgets it almost instantly.

Motoring towards the first set with 86% first serves in. It’s hard to compete with that, truth be told.

Having spent six hours more on court than his opponent, it might not be a bad idea for Daniil Medvedev to try and wrap sets up quickly.

First point of the game it’s an unforced error on a cross-court forehand – and that sums up how this match has gone so far.

A drop shot thereafter sits up for Medvedev, only for him to overcook his lashed forehand.

Then an ace brings up 30-15. Big cheer from the crowd on that one.

‘Crazy’ and ‘Clutch’ are the words coming out of Nick Kyrgios’ mouth right now when it comes to some of these wild Medvedev winners.

His ground strokes are out of this world good.

Lots of shouts of encouragement from his box and I don’t blame them.

A few more first serves land in and he can win easier points behind that serve.

It’s the second serve which looks set to be the Achilles heel.

This is such an aggressive start. I said that already but he’s looking so un-Medvedev like at times here.

He’s rushing the net, playing serve and volley and because he’s winning points so quickly he wants to keep that pace up.

First blood to the Grand Slam winner.

It’s been a really aggressive start from Medvedev and he’s rightly being praised by Tim Henman and Nick Kyrgios in the commentary box.

This time Sinner raced into the net but cannot volley back a wicked passing shot on his backhand side.

Medvedev can be very demonstrative on court but he’s brought an air of tranquility so far and perhaps even this early on his experience is showing.

Those long rallies favour the Russian so, so, so much.

Faults on his first serve are leaving Sinner with chances to attack on the secocnd serve and Medvedev has a lucky let cord to thank for setting up aa forehand winner.

A second puts him 30-15 ahead and it is only when Sinner gets behind the return do points open up. Sinner is very, very good at closing points quickly.
