Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have long been one of Bollywood’s most beloved couples. However, in recent months, rumours of their divorce have been swirling on the internet. Amid these speculations, an old interview of Aishwarya is going viral, in which she reveals the details of her spontaneous and chaotic roka ceremony. She shared how her special day unfolded, filled with surprise, emotion, and a flurry of family activity.
The concept of a Roka ceremony is more popular in North India. However, Aishwarya, being South Indian, had little knowledge of what a Roka ceremony was. The sudden ceremony, which took place right after Abhishek’s proposal, left Aishwarya and her family completely baffled. During a chat show episode, Aishwarya recounted how everything unfolded after Abhishek’s heartfelt proposal. She recalled that the decision to have the Roka was made spontaneously, catching her completely by surprise.
She said, “I didn’t even know there was something called a ‘Roka’ ceremony. We are South Indians, so I didn’t know what a Roka was, and suddenly there was this call from their house to ours: ‘We are coming.’”
Describing the events, Aishwarya remembered how Abhishek called her and told her it was urgent. She said, “Abhishek was like, ‘We are all coming, and I can’t stop Dad. We’re on our way. We’re coming to your place.’ And I was like, Oh my God!”
Did you know that Aishwarya’s father attended the Roka via video call? Yes, in the same interview, she revealed that her father was out of town when the ceremony took place. As a last resort, Aishwarya’s father, Krishnaraj Rai, attended the Roka virtually. “So, this Roka is happening with a call to my father, who is out of town,” she said.
Meanwhile, fans are hoping that Aishwarya and Abhishek are still together. However, their recent public appearances have led to further speculation. During Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding, the entire family made a collective appearance, but Aishwarya and her daughter Aaradhya were photographed separately.
