AltNews came up with a laughable ‘fact-check’ on Congress toolkit. It got exposed brutally

AltNews, the infamous propaganda website commissioned on the payrolls of Congress and other left-liberal organisations on Wednesday once again exposed itself. After Congress was caught with its pants down for the devious Tool Kit — AltNews was quick to jump in and released an article, where in a rather childish and amusing way, the ‘fact checking’ website granted a clean chit to the Congress party.

However, in doing so, the website employed some sharp investigative journalism skills and of course the ‘selective’ use of the facts. Whilst giving a rebuttal to the point in the toolkit where it was mentioned that Congress and its volunteers were only tasked to help those who tagged the Congress handles, AltNews cherry-picked a tweet where the aggrieved party had not tagged Congress’s youth team for help and yet Mr Srinivas replied and helped.

But as it turns out, the person named Sakshi had tagged Congress in one of the earlier tweets which were conveniently ignored by the supposed ‘fact checkers’. After netizens pointed out the discrepancy, the propaganda website silently edited their so-called ‘fact check’ to delete the reference to Sakshi’s tweets that were used as evidence to prove that the Congress party had indeed helped people who had not tagged the Indian Youth Congress social media handles.

The tweets of journalist Aditya Raj Kaul were slyly inserted in the article while any reference to Sakshi’s tweet was omitted. The website then emphasized its claim that Congress did help others who had not tagged it for help on Twitter.

However, in a hurry to correct one mistake, AltNews ended up committing yet another blunder. As reported by TFI, in the toolkit, the Congress party, under the hegemonic control of the Gandhis, had been caught making it amply clear that priority must be given to VIPs, journalists, media professionals and influencers by the IYC when they ask for Covid-19 related assistance.

Perhaps, the author of the AltNews article did not read the toolkit properly when they added Aditya Raj Kaul’s tweet. The journalist enjoys a handsome following on Twitter and helping him within 28 minutes (Kaul tweeted at 11:02 AM, May 18 and help from IYC arrived at 11:32 AM) was just Congress following the diction from the toolkit manual. By adding his tweet, the website only proved another point of the Toolkit.

As reported by TFI, Rajeev Gowda, Congress’s research cell head yesterday accepted that Congress had indeed chalked up the ‘toolkit’ but to minimise the damage claimed that the other parts were fabricated by the BJP.

The website claiming to debunk false news did the ‘laborious’ task of quoting Gowda on multiple occasions and later using his statements inferred that BJP had indeed forged the documents. The laugh riot of a report can be read here.

While AltNews thought it was being cheeky with the edits, the reality of its intentions stood naked-exposed. The most ludicrous fact check in the entire article was the suspense of changed fonts. The website claimed that because character fonts and indentation were changed in the Central Vista document and the Covid-19 toolkit — it meant that the latter was forged by BJP.

If such assumptions and cutting edge analysis is what it takes to run a fact-checking website then even a pre-pubescent teenager with a working knowledge of computers could run the organisation which claims to be an independent fact-checker.

AltNews is the weary crutch of the left-liberal ecosystem upon which it rests whenever the cabal is exposed in the public. However, this time around, even the most ardent of propaganda websites failed to serve its Congress masters. Surely, a part of the commission will be docked by the Gandhi clan when it releases the paycheck next month.
