Alabama Congressman Wants To ‘Do Fundraisers At Mar-A-Lago As Often As I Can’

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) wants to “do fundraisers at Mar-a-Lago as often as I can,” he told Forbes on Thursday.

The Senate candidate’s remarks came after his campaign reported spending more than $25,000 at Donald Trump’s Florida club in the second quarter of 2021.

“I booked Mar-a-Lago because of the hope it would be a unique and great place to hold a fundraiser,” Brooks said in a statement.

The campaign paid $19,000 to Mar-a-Lago in April and another $6,500 in June for facility rentals and catering, which made up all of the campaign’s spending on events over that three-month period. The disbursements also appear to be the Brooks campaign’s first expenses at a Trump property in his 10-plus years in politics.

“People in Florida and Alabama LOVED visiting Mar-a-Lago and hearing from President Trump in a very close and personal setting,” Brooks said. “As such, the Mar-a-Lago fundraiser netted tens of thousands of dollars for our campaign.”

“It is my intention to do fundraisers at Mar-a-Lago as often as I can, so long as fundraisers at Mar-a-Lago continue to do so financing my campaign for America First policies,” Brooks said. “I personally thank President Trump for allowing me to use Mar-a-Lago and hope he will continue to be so generous in the future.”

The love is mutual. Trump, who refused to divest his 100% stake in Mar-a-Lago when he became president, endorsed Brooks in his Senate race three months ago.

Trump has long been aware that his own political standing could help draw more money to his Florida club. “It’s had a very positive impact,” Trump said in a 2016 deposition, when he was running for president. “The manager told me recently, he said, ‘Boy, it is actually the best year we’ve ever had at Mar-a-Lago.’ And I was looking at the numbers. I said, ‘What do you attribute this to?’ He said, ‘The campaign.’”
