In a large-hearted gesture, Akshay Kumar has donated Rs 1 crore to feed over 1,200 monkeys daily in Ayodhya. Ahead of Diwali, the actor initiated this project to ensure the primates are fed at specific locations on the city’s outskirts, reducing disruption for the countless pilgrims visiting daily. In tribute to his parents and his father-in-law, Bollywood legend Rajesh Khanna, Akshay had their names inscribed on the feeding van. Reflecting on the decision, he shared, “When I heard about the issues faced by the monkeys at such a holy place, I immediately felt like contributing my bit.”
Akshay added that including his family’s names was an emotional choice, explaining, “Somewhere up there, they would feel proud of me.” He humorously noted that, if possible, he would have labelled the van “Aruna, Hariom aur Rajesh Khanna di gaddi” in Punjabi style. This follows his recent Rs 1.21 crore donation to the Haji Ali Dargah renovation project and his Rs 25 crore pledge to the OM CARES fund during the Covid pandemic.
Akshay’s next film, Singham Again, releases on November 1, where he stars as Sooryavanshi alongside Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and more.
