After failing to dethrone PM Modi, Congress wants to play its nuclear card to destabilise…

Hobby politician and a Twitter Social justice warrior Rahul Gandhi has awoken from his deep slumber and picked a topic to target the central government. This time around, the Congress scion has leeched onto the archipelago of Lakshadweep to somehow kickstart his dormant political career. Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to oppose Lakshadweep administrator Praful Khode Patel’s new draft Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation 2021 (LDAR) and claimed to stand for the people of the island.

“Lakshadweep is India’s jewel in the ocean. The ignorant bigots in power are destroying it. I stand with the people of Lakshadweep,” tweeted Rahul.

The Congress leader even wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called the officials bringing the new reforms as anti-people. “The administrator has unilaterally proposed sweeping changes without duty consulting elected representatives or the public. The people of Lakshadweep are protesting against these arbitrary actions,” wrote Rahul in the letter.

The Congress leader alleged that proposed changes and lifting of restrictions on the sale of alcohol were a deliberate assault on the cultural fabric of the local community of Lakshadweep.

Earlier, reported by TFI, CPIM leader and Rajya Sabha MP Elamanam Kareem, miffed by the changes had similarly written a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind and urged him to recall the Lakshadweep administrator.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also took to Twitter to earn his part of the pie and tooted his own horn by saying, “I first raised this issue on Feb 9, prompted by my ex-MP friend below. Today the protests have become a storm. The Govt has to intervene. We are destroying a peaceful part of the country where peace, communal harmony &cal reigned undisturbed. Stop the rot!”

Among the policies of the new administration that are being opposed are: banning candidates with more than two children from contesting Panchayat polls, the removal of illegal storage facilities along the coast, and the strict order to boat owners against leasing/renting their boats to individuals without proper permission from authorities.

Besides, Patel has also given a nod to allow the opening of liquor bars on the island, to promote tourism. Further, he has also proposed to bring in a beef ban and eliminate non-vegetarian food from the menu of Anganwadi children whilst also citing animal preservation as one of the reasons for the ban.

As reported previously by TFI, despite having a Muslim population of over 96 per cent on the island — the Islamist and communists in close cooperation with Congress are claiming that Patel is trying to undermine the ‘Islamic character’ of Lakshadweep. The fact that opposition parties are willing to turn an administrative reforms draft into a Hindu-Muslim tussle should speak about their intent to help the local populace or the ecology.

Lakshadweep is a strategic territory for India. It has remained aloof from the usual bureaucratic jargon of national politics for decades but now the Congress party is trying to disturb the region and turn the people against the Modi government — something that could potentially have huge security implications for the country.

Yesterday, the Kerala High Court gave another jolt to Congress by refusing to stay the implementation of LDAR and other administrative reforms after Congress leader KP Noushad Ali had filed the plea, according to a Live Law report. Hearing the plea, the Kerala High Court bench comprising Justice Vinod Chandran and Justice MR Anitha observed that it was a policy matter and asked all stakeholders to share their views with the court.

The opposition parties led by Congress and their abhorrent style of politics knows no bounds – there is no morality or feeling of collectivism when it comes to discussing delicate issues. Rather than sitting across the table and trying to review the points of the draft, the Congress party is busy giving the entire controversy a communal angle.
