MEERUT: Debt, desperation and deceit took a chilling turn in Saharanpur as a Baghpat-based doctor, grappling with a Rs 30 lakh loan , allegedly concocted a plan that ended up with him burning a man alive to fake his own demise and dodge financial obligations, police said on Saturday.
SP (city) Abhimanyu Manglik said, “Dr Mubarik Ahmed, 35, was looking for a corpse to substitute as his own.” When he failed to procure a corpse, he devised an alternative plan.
Last Sunday, the doctor allegedly lured Sonu, a 32-year-old daily wage labourer, with the promise of free drinks. Once together, Mubarik drove him to an isolated spot, locked him inside the car, and set it ablaze.
