Govinda, who was at the height of his career in the late ’80s and all of ’90s had once opened up about how the perception of a ‘hero’ has changed in Bollywood. Comparing to the ‘80s and the ‘90s, he sensed a sea change in the dynamics of the industry.

During an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Govinda noted that heroes around his time could get away with knowing a tad bit of dancing. However, such isn’t the case in the present times. Calling today’s heroes ‘all-rounders’, the actor said, “In my day, you could get by if you knew a little bit of dancing.  Only action heroes needed a pumped up body. But today, you need to be an expert dancer and have a great body too.”

While speaking to Filmfare, Govinda also quipped about his fall out with David Dhawan. The actor-director duo had given many hits in the ’90s including Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Deewana Mastana, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1 and more. Govinda quipped, “I don’t think I will get to work with David. Because when recently my financer approached David, he said he didn’t see me as a hero anymore. He also did not want to give me a role apart from that of the hero.”
