At 15, Rekha was once molested on the sets by a superstar. The whole incident is also mentioned in the actress’ biographical book.
Veteran Bollywood actress Rekha has won hearts with her mesmerising on-screen presence and graceful dance moves. The actress never fails to charm her fans even at the age of 70. Rekha has often found herself in the eye of controversies. From her affair with Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan to the death of her husband Mukesh Aggarwal, there are several incidents that shows her life has been far from ordinary. Another shocking incident was when the Silsila actress was forcibly kissed by a notable B-town actor.
This horrifying incident was mentioned in the actress’ biographical book Rekha: The Untold Story. In 1969, Rekha began her career as a lead actress. She was just 15 when she signed Anjana Safar and was paired opposite Bengali superstar Biswajit Chatterjee, who was 32 at the time.
The film’s director Kuljit Pal conspired to shoot a kissing scene without her permission. A scene required Biswajit to romance the actress, but he went on to kiss her, taking Rekha by surprise. He pulled Rekha close to him and pressed his lips onto her forcibly.
Rekha started to push him away as she was feeling extremely uncomfortable. But the worst part was, director allowed the kissing sequence to go on and didn’t say cut for excruciating whole five minutes. As the shot got over, Rekha was standing shell-shocked, traumatized and crying, while other crew members laughed, whistled and clapped watching the scene.
While, the kissing scene created much controversy once it was reported in the press, still it was kept in the film. In an interview, Biswajit defended his act, stating he only did what director asked him to do.
Soon, Anjana Safar face censorship issues for the long kissing scene between Rekha and Biswajit. Although the film was shot in 1969, it got released in theatres ten years later due to production delays. In 1979, Anjana Safar hit the big screens under the title Do Shikaar but failed to perform well at the box office.
