Filmfare Throwback: When Priyanka Chopra Won a Filmfare Award for Aitraaz


Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has announced the sequel to his hit film Aitraaz on its 20th anniversary. The film starred Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Chopra won the Filmfare Award for Best actor in a Villainous role for Aitraaz. It was the 50th year of the Filmfare Awards and the actress received the Black Lady from the legendary Dev Anand.

Receiving the award, Priyanka said, “I would like to thank the cast and crew of Aitraaz – Subhaas ji, Abbas Bhai (Abbas Alibhai), Mustan Bhai (Mustan Alibhai)- who is a part of the film. Bebo (Kareena Kapoor Khan), Akshay (Kumar), Amrish ji (Amrish Puri). I would like to thank my friends, my family and everybody special who has been here and most of all – all of you for giving me such a special part of you. Thank you.”

Priyanka Chopra won the Filmfare Best Actor in a Villainous Role award for the 2004 film Aitraaz

After her speech, Dev Anand recalled going to Johannesburg with Amitabh Bachchan and seeing Priyanka Chopra during her Miss India competition. He revealed that he said back then that Priyanka would be a big star one day. The actress also performed after receiving the award. Aitraaz opened to positive reviews when it was released especially for its direction, the performance of the actors and the premise.
