The Mexican Grand Prix witnessed a hilarious moment when Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz decided to photobomb McLaren’s group photograph.

Once the races of a Formula One event are over, teams that manage a podium finish usually celebrate by taking photographs with the trophies and staff. In a similar case, McLaren posed for a group picture after Lando Norris finished the Mexican Grand Prix in second place. Moments before the snap was taken, Sainz sprinted into the frame to photobomb their picture.

He knelt down in the middle of the group sparking a round of applause from the rival team.

McLaren’s official account has now shared a glimpse of what occurred on X (formerly Twitter). “Team photo in: One, two, three…Hold up!” they wrote.

Fans were delighted to see the Ferrari and McLaren celebrate together. Even though the two have been fierce rivals, their friendly off-track antics ended up winning hearts on the internet. Many have now reacted to the hilarious video in the comments section.

One of them jokingly wrote, “A wild smooth operator appears.”

Another added, “Lando getting all the attention. Love these moments with the McLaren crew! Who else thinks this is the best part of the weekend?”

One social media user suggested that Carlos Sainz was indicating towards this next team. “Bro is definitely going to this team,” read the response.

Another added, “He did it, appreciate their effort, amazing.”

“Funniest thing to see after Zak photobombed Ferrari,” observed one person.

While Sainz’s hilarious photobomb effort has taken the internet by storm, he was not the one who started this chucklesome trend. After Ferrari’s triumph at the Mexican Grand Prix, the team decided to take a photograph of Sainz’s first-place and Charles Leclerc’s third-place finishes at the event. It was McLaren CEO Zak Brown who decided to jump into the frame and interrupt their photography session. The Ferrari team took the joke well as they cheered him on from behind.

The Formula One race in Mexico City saw Sainz, Norris and Leclerc take charge. They were the top three runners for nearly the entirety of the race, especially after Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was given a 20-second time penalty for pushing Norris off the track. The penalty was imposed because the manoeuvre saw Verstappen gain an unfair advantage during their initial tussle in the race. Eventually, the competition finished with Sainz coming out on the top.
