In his autobiography, Khullam Khulla, Rishi Kapoor gave an intimate look into his marriage, sharing that Neetu Kapoor felt ‘threatened’ only once when he reunited with this actress.
Neetu Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor’s marriage stands out as a testament to lasting love. Their love story began in 1970s and during that time both were ruling Bollywood with their impressive work. However, Rishi Kapoor has worked with some of the top actresses, but here’s one heroine that Neetu Kapoor used to feel ‘threatened’ of when he teamed with her again. Can you guess the name? Well, she is none other than his Bobby co-star Dimple Kapadia.
Short after the release of her debut film, Dimple married actor Rajesh Khanna and quit acting in the same year. Unfortunately, after two years, her marriage ended and she decided to make a comeback in films. Dimple returned to the screen with the film Saagar (1985), opposite Rishi Kapoor.
‘I have never let Neetu down in our marriage’: Rishi Kapoor
Rishi Kapoor shared that although he and Neetu had a solid marriage by then, she confided in him that working with Dimple was the only time she had ever felt “threatened.” In his autobiography, Khullam Khulla, the late actor wrote, “But she needn’t have worried. Dimple was a friend, even if she may have been a little more than that during Bobby. Ten years had gone by; she was coming out of a marriage with two children of her own, and I was also well settled with two kids. I have never let Neetu down in our marriage. I am a happily married man with a loving and supportive wife. Neetu is not only my wife, she is also a friend.”
When Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia reunited
By the time they reunited for Saagar, Rishi and Dimple were in very different phases of life. The late actor felt that she lost her flamboyance and confidence post-marriage. Rishi Kapoor noted, “She also felt the need to assert that she was a great actress. I could see her trying too hard to live up to her image in Bobby, but it wasn’t necessary. She was only twenty-five and very beautiful. Here, I must mention how much of a source of strength her sister Simple was to her at this point. She constantly motivated Dimple and helped her emerge from this phase. Many years later, we did another film, Pyaar Mein Twist (2005).
Rishi also reached out to Rajesh Khanna to see if he was comfortable with his and Dimple Kapadia’s collaboration. “If I remember right, he got back to me saying that if I didn’t do the film, someone else would. In any case, I was more worried about what Neetu would think of my working with Dimple after all these years.”
Rishi Kapoor praised Neetu for allowing him to do work with Dimple Kapadia again, even if she had few ‘reservations’. “It is to her credit that she didn’t put her foot down and allowed me to do Saagar.” the late actor wrote.
