Eventually, Ronnie transitioned to the cable business during the cable TV boom in India in the early 1980s. Later, in 1990, he invested ₹37,000 to establish UTV.
Starting as a television production company, UTV later expanded into a leading film producer. It gained popularity with beloved TV shows like Shanti and Sea Hawks before transitioning to movie production, delivering hits such as Swades, Jodhaa Akbar, Fashion, Barfi, and Chennai Express.
In 2012, Ronnie hit the jackpot when he sold his company to Disney for a billion dollars. This was one of the biggest deals in cinema history. He went on to establish RSVP Movies, a new production company that has produced films such as Uri and Kedarnath, among others.
