Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina’s Jigra trailer has received a lot of love and appreciation, and all eyes are now on its release. However, recently, criticism arose over Alia’s casting in the film after an interview with the director Vasan Bala went viral. In the interview, Bala said that Karan Johar forwarded his rough script to Alia and many netizens interpreted that she was not the first choice of the director, but got the film because of Karan Johar.
Now, the film’s co-producer Somen Misra has issued a clarification. Reposting a tweet of a user who shared the interview clip, Somen wrote, “Hahahaa this appeared on TL. This is so funny. When Vasan, me and KJ were discussing the initial story, we were dying to get Alia on board. Matlab (I mean) I don’t know one filmmaker who won’t. She is absolutely the best. And we were lucky she said yes. Vasan meant it was rough pitch then.”
He further added that there is stupidity on social media and people make a mountain of a molehill.
Vasan Bala also commented on this and said, “Karan knew better and can’t thank him enough for the rest of my life for trusting his instincts. It is the most magnanimous gesture anyone can do to help someone make a film….Trust!”
Jigra sees Alia Bhatt as a sister who is on a mission to rescue her brother, Vedang Raina, from jail. The film will have a theatrical release on 11th October.
