Shruti Haasan to star in Downton Abbey creator Philip John’s Chennai Story


Shruti Haasan is poised to lead the cast in Chennai Story, an upcoming project helmed by BAFTA-winning director Philip John. The film is based on Timeri N Murari’s bestselling novel, The Arrangements of Love.

Described as an English film with elements of Tamil and Welsh, the movie delves into themes of love, self-expression, and acceptance, as stated in a press release. Set against the backdrop of Wales and India, the coming-of-age romantic comedy will showcase Haasan in the role of Anu, a spirited private detective.

Expressing enthusiasm about the project, Haasan highlighted the significance of portraying the diversity and uniqueness of Chennai. 

Philip John, renowned for his work on Moon Dogs and the series Being Human, shared his excitement about teaming up with the exceptionally talented Shruti Haasan. The filmmaker expressed his delight in exploring the emotional journey of the story set in the vibrant cities of Chennai and Cardiff. The film aims to bring a fresh perspective to international film production, showcasing the unexplored cultural facets of Wales and India on the big screen.

Co-written by Nimmi Harasgama, the movie will also feature British-Indian actor Viveik Kalra, currently seen in the OTT film Lift.
