The first teaser for the highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, was revealed during the CCXP fan expo in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The second season of House of the Dragon continues to delve into the Targaryen dynasty’s struggles for power in Westeros. “There is no war so hateful to the Gods as a war between kin,” says Rhaenys Targaryen, the Queen Who Never Was, in the teaser. She emphasised, “And no war so bloody as a war between dragons.”
The teaser, running over a minute, offered a glimpse of Alicent Hightower acknowledging, “Many will die, and the victor will eventually ascend the throne.”
Set 200 years before Game of Thrones, the Emmy-nominated House of the Dragon draws from George RR Martin’s Fire and Blood, chronicling the rise and fall of the Targaryen dynasty. The series began in 2022 with King Viserys I’s coronation, who named Rhaenyra Targaryen as his official heir.
Returning for House of the Dragon season 2 alongside Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith are Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Eve Best as Rhaenys Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen, Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon Targaryen, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, and Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower.
House of the Dragon Season 2 will consist of eight episodes, two fewer than the first season. New showrunner Ryan Condal mentioned that this season will adopt a slower pace compared to its predecessor.
