Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi and Nathan Fillion are set to play iconic superheroes from the comics.
The upcoming film, Superman Legacy, which is set to revive the DC Universe in live-action, has enlisted the talents of three additional actors to portray iconic superheroes from the comics. Hawkgirl will be played by Isabela Merced, Mister Terrific by Edi Gathegi, and Nathan Fillion will take on the role of a Green Lantern, although not necessarily the one typically associated with the character.
The 2025 movie, which is written and directed by James Gunn, has already chosen David Corenswet as Clark Kent and The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The filming for the movie will begin in January 2024 and it will establish the foundation for the new DCU that James Gunn is creating in partnership with Peter Safran, the chair and CEO of DC Studios.
It was recently reported that Isabela Merced, who is famous for her roles in Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Dora and the Lost City of Gold, has been announced as the new addition to DC Studios. She will be playing the role of Hawkgirl, a winged warrior in the new universe. Hawkgirl’s preferred weapons are melee weapons like swords, spears, and maces. Merced’s height of 5-foot-1 will make her stand out from the usual comic book fighters.
Nathan Fillion, who was previously seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, will join James Gunn once again in Superman Legacy as a Green Lantern named Guy Gardner and will be seen donning the iconic bowl cut from the comics.
Scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy was unveiled as part of the initial phase of the revamped slate by Gunn and Safran earlier this year. It is positioned as the key project to kick-start their new strategy.
