The controversial series The Idol starring the Weeknd, Lily Rose-Depp, Blackpink’s Jennie and others has been making headlines ever since its premiere. After its release, the show received flak for its portrayal of nudity and unnecessary graphic scenes. Now, amidst speculation of it returning for a second season, the studio has shared an update.
In a tweet, the studio revealed, “It is being misreported that a decision on a second season of The Idol has been determined. It has not, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you Sunday night.”
According to earlier reports, The Idol was meant to be a limited series. The series premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 amidst a lot of buzz.
The Idol follows a rising pop star who crosses paths with a nightclub owner with a sketchy past. The show marks the acting debut of Blackpink’s Jennie.
The Idol is a six-part series with two episodes streaming on OTT.
